The inaugural cohort, working under the theme “Healing Through Art – Stories of Transformation,” has set the stage for something truly remarkable. Their passion and dedication reaffirm my belief that the future of Zambia’s cultural and creative sector is in strong, capable hands.
This residency was not just about capacity building and communication skills—it was about healing, transformation, and empowerment. It was about equipping artists to raise their voices on crucial issues such as increased budget allocation for the arts and accountability in governance, while also rediscovering the value and healing power of creativity.
Through storytelling, performance, and dialogue, our artists reminded us that art is more than expression—it is medicine, it is advocacy, it is change. To witness them find their voice, speak truth in their own words, and embrace their role as healers and advocates was both inspiring and humbling.
